Keep Your Labor Day Pest-Free

HERE IS HOW TO HELP KEEP YOUR LABOR DAY PEST-FREE

YOUR COOKOUT
Labor Day is a great time of year, cooler temperatures, and maybe the last time for a cookout before winter. You can take some steps to make sure pests do not make outdoor festivities a problem. The best way to rid yourself of a bug problem on Labor Day is to take some steps ahead of time to prevent these pests from bothering you on Labor Day.

MOSQUITOS, WASPS AND BEES MAY BOTHER YOU ON LABOR DAY
Labor Day is a holiday that occurs in the late summer weather when some pests are preparing for winter and are aggressive. There are several types of pests that thrive in this weather and could put a damper on your Labor Day celebrations. Mosquitos are a big problem and might be the most annoying pests when gathering outdoors for a Labor Day cookout and are most active in the late summer months. Wasps and bees are a big problem this time of year and zoom in on sugary sodas and the type of high protein food served during a cookout.

FLIES AND ANTS
Flies are another common summer bug that swarms around food and waste. Ants can be found in most backyards and these tiny pests can have a big impact on your festivities if they are allowed to be in the area that you are eating as they will send their workers out to scout out food sources for the colony.

LABOR DAY PEST PREVENTION TECHNIQUES
For mosquitos and flies, applying some pest repellent spray and putting up some citronella torches are some good options to keep the bugs away. To further rid yourself of an infestation it is important to eliminate the breeding grounds for these insects by applying bug repellent in those areas and making sure there is not stagnant water in the area. Keeping sugary sodas, juices, and desserts covered will help keep stinging insects from approaching, and keeping hot dogs, and hamburgers covered tight will help discourage pests. Keeping your trash cans sealed and your yard free of waste is a good way to keep the fly population down and avoid a swarm around your dinner table. Look around for any ant mounds, and stagnant water and treat them with pesticides.

WHAT TIME DO PESTS COME OUT?
Each type of insect has a different time of day that they prefer to be active. Mosquitos are most active around sunset as the heat of the day can cause them to dehydrate quickly. Flies, on the other hand, are most active during the day as they thrive on the warm weather to look for food sources or to lay eggs and then look for a place to rest in the evening, often in a cool area. Ants can be active at any time of day, but they are most active in the twilight hours, around sunrise and sunset. Knowing when these insects are the most active and taking the preventative measures such as citronella candles, torches, bug repellent, and placing pest control measures where bugs are active can help in preparing your space and making sure that all your Labor Day festivities are a pest-free success.
